

Tangled Up In BlueHe was sitting on a park bench rubbing his hands together. The day was blue cold, the wet leaves, and dead trees with wet bark kind of cold. He cupped his hands and blew into them, trying to keep himself warm. He’d been here before. Well, not here, but places like here. Nose running, body shuttering. He stared at his hands, his named tattooed below his knuckles on each hand. “Billy Mercy,” he said to himself, like he was just checking to make sure he was right. Cars rolled by, fuzzy beams of light in the chilly mist. He was shuttering worse now; he blew into his hands again convincing himself it was just the cold. Los Angeles, 1986He sits, staring at the grime infesting the concrete all. The pipes perspiring, echoing little drops of sound as they drip to the floor. And he sits, staring eyes unblinking, drying out as cracks of red chisel their way into his iris. His boots are sitting, warped and worn, besides his bed; a glass of water is sweating bullets under his heavy stare, bending the blues and greens of the walls between its circumference. This room is all he has: his boots, his glass, and the toilet, faulty and broken in the next, tiny room.
